FAQ

What materials do you use

All jewellery is handmade in recycled sterling silver, goldplated sterling silver (indicated in micron), white and yellow 14 karat gold and 18 karat gold. All kind of gemstones and pearls can be implemented in the design.

Where is the jewellery made?

The jewellery is handmade and hand finished in Belgium by Charlien, the designer.  The goldplating is done by an external partner.

Do you also make engagement rings and wedding rings?

Yes, please get in touch via info@charlienlagrou.com and you can have a ring made as you wish, with or without gemstone(s) of your choice.

How many micron do you put on the jewellery?

Rings, bracelets and chain jewellery have a layer of 5 micron, exceptionally 10 micron. Other necklaces, earrings and ear cuffs have a layer of 3 or 5 micron.

What is the quality of the goldplating?

Since mid 2021, all goldplating is performed by a company in Antwerp that has build up an expertise in this matter for decades and they are the only one in Belgium equipped with ultraprofessional machinery. Therefore, the quality is guaranteed.

Can I ask for a replating?

Yes, please get in touch by email to ask for a proper quote.

Can I treat vermeil jewellery the same as solid gold jewellery?

Vermeil jewellery is a thick layer of 18 karat gold but the base metal is still sterling silver. So it's important to care for your piece of jewellery by avoiding cosmetics, sweat, friction, intense contact with hard surfaces, and never put on alcohol gel while wearing your jewellery. If you handle it in such a way that there are deep scratches on your piece, the sterling silver base will show.

Does sterling silver tarnish?

Sterling silver is an alloy of 92,5% silver and 7,5% copper. This can cause sterling silver to tarnish over time when they interact with moisture that's in the air. To prevent this process of oxidization, keep your jewellery in a dark and dry space, preferably the jewellery box. Don't store it in the bathroom. Clean your jewellery after wearing it with the soft cloth provided with your order and rinse with a soft brush and a mild soap bath once in a while. A silver dip bath can clean your jewellery profoundly. The more you wear your sterling silver piece, the less chance it has to form oxidization.

Can I customize a product?

Yes. When you order a piece from the collection, it can come with engraving, (semi) made in other precious metals, different details or another personal touch. You can also get in touch for a completely new and unique design.

Do you make jewellery for weddings?

Yes, I make custom-made bridal jewellery (or groom jewellery) with the choice to implement gemstones or pearls. I also make engagement rings and wedding rings on request.

Is your business sustainable?

Yes. Every piece of jewellery is made in a highly responsible way, whereby almost all pieces are made to order in-house, the precious metals are recycled and there is almost no waste. The gemstones are sourced in a responsible way and the packaging as well as the printed matter is eco-friendly.

How long does it take for a piece to be made?

It varies. Pieces without the need to be goldplated can be shipped sooner (especially in case of an urgent order), but generally it takes 10 to 15 business days before shipping. In case of a customized order, the production time can differ.

Can jewellery be shipped by express delivery?

Yes, at the checkout page you can opt for express delivery. However, the item first needs to be made. For urgent orders, please get in touch.

What packaging do you use?

All jewellery is shipped in a beautiful jewellery box and comes with a soft cloth to clean the piece, a warranty card and a care card. Packed as a gift if requested.

What is covered in the warranty?

The warranty of two years covers production defects. It does not cover loss of the piece, bad treatment, goldplating and wear and tear.

Do you repare jewellery?

Yes, please get in touch by email to receive a quote.

I need more information about a certain piece or gemstones. How can I be helped out?

Please get in touch via email and I am happy to provide more information or provide pictures of details and gemstones.
